Adam Nielsen

I’m a cybersecurity professional with a background in systems administration and network security. As a U.S. Navy veteran, my career has been shaped by hands-on work in IT infrastructure, troubleshooting, and security operations, with a focus on solving problems methodically and building reliable, practical solutions.

Over the years, I’ve gained experience supporting Windows, Linux, and Mac environments, configuring and troubleshooting networks, analyzing traffic, and applying frameworks that support threat detection and incident response workflows such as NIST CSF. I’ve also developed a strong interest in broader cybersecurity concepts such as GRC, COBIT, and ISO/IEC 27001, which has helped me connect day-to-day technical work with the bigger security picture.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computing and Informatics from Rowan University and am currently in graduate school at Rowan, where I’m about to complete my Master’s in Cybersecurity. I like understanding how systems behave, documenting processes carefully, and making sure decisions are grounded in evidence and real-world needs. Whether I’m working through a technical issue, studying for a certification, or thinking through a complex environment, I tend to focus on clarity, structure, and practical implementation.

I’m currently continuing to build my skills through ISACA CRISC preparation, TryHackMe and HackTheBox labs, and ongoing technical learning across security, networking, and infrastructure topics. I enjoy scenario-based learning because it mirrors the kinds of challenges that come up in real environments and helps me stay sharp.

Outside of work I enjoy playing golf and hockey, and I’m a total sports nut overall. When I’m not working on certifications, schoolwork, or continuing to grow in ethical hacking and penetration testing, I like spending as much time outdoors as possible hiking, fishing, or relaxing at the beach.
